Project to create attractive public space and improve busy thoroughfare in front of Taunton Castle museum. Whilst work undertaken, public access between bus station, Castle and central town shopping areas maintained through thoughtfully planned phasing and careful maintenance of segregation arrangements.
In consultation with specialist interest stakeholders, methods were employed which were appropriate for historic location, to protect buried archaeology and above ground historic structures. Liaison with archaeologists to satisfy watching brief requirements and flexible approach taken to allow investigation of finds.
Civil engineering groundworks, concrete slab construction and natural stone paving completed by own workforce to high quality standard. Specific controls developed for work next to the River Tone and otter habitat, and for work to museum entrances.
Piled concrete pedestrian bridge with glass balustrade and walkway constructed, shortlisted for the Institution of Structural Engineers award in the pedestrian bridge category.
